tinc dies after some days/weekes of normal activity

That's not the problem. In Flynn's case it has something to do with
dial-up accounts which go down and go back up with a different IP
address, thereby failing to close old TCP connections in an orderly
fashion.
Pre5 should fix this, but it might take a while before we release it...
