to check whether tinc is working

hello,

I sent you an email on same topic weeks before and you 
replied me to use ping for transmitting packets between 
computers in the vpn. The OS I am using is Linux. for ping we 
give the IP address of the computer. After executing tinc if 
I ping the other computer with its IP address I am able to 
send and receive packets. My doubt is WHETHER PACKETS GO 
THROUGH THE TINC INTERFACE OR THROUGH THE NORMAL INTERNET. 
Just help me to check this.
