Cant ping across

I have never setup a vpn before so this is all a bit new too me.
I have Freebsd box each end ( 6x). I think i have tinc setup ok as i get 
this

Got PING from firstw (84.45.223.116 port 6500): 8
Sending PONG to firstw (84.45.223.116 port 6500): 9
Sending 2 bytes of metadata to firstw (84.45.223.116 port 6500)

I think that looks quite promising . An ifconfig on both machines gives me

That is the same ip as the nic has but i gave it a bigger subnet as per 
docs.  So i am just wonderign about the next step :)
