The output is unfortunately not very useful (but that is true for most
encryption/decryption errors). It also has nothing to do with what is written
in the pureftpd FAQ.

So, on IRC we ruled out copy&paste and key generation errors, however it could
be that you are using the PrivateKey or PublicKey options in tinc.conf or the
host config files, instead of PrivateKeyFile and PublicKeyFile. Usually it is
best not to use any of those options. Can you check whether that might solve
your problem?
