Guus
The mdoc warnings (on FreeBSD 8) are getting a little bit annoying at times:
anywi at lcrproxy:/usr/ports/security/tinc/work/tinc-1.0.19/doc % man tinc.conf 2>&1 | head -5
mdoc warning: Empty input line #6
mdoc warning: Empty input line #10
mdoc warning: Empty input line #15
mdoc warning: Empty input line #22
mdoc warning: Empty input line #30
There are hundreds. Ctrl-L refreshes the page and shows the man page, but still. They are caused by empty lines in the tinc.conf.5.in file because
groff_mdoc man page (FreeBSD 8.3):
"A warning is emitted when an empty input line is found outside of dis-
plays (see below). Use `.sp' instead. (Well, it is even better to use
-mdoc macros to avoid the usage of low-level commands.)"
Linux mdoc probably behaves differently. Mac OS X mdoc (Mono) does not have this paragraph in the man page for mdoc, so probably does not produce these errors either.
