Well, both approach are good in there respective context.
When everything run smooth it's pretty usefull when the software can do
"auto-magic" things, but when times comes to debug issues it could
become a nightmare ... My professional experiences at work makes me
prefer when things are, like Etienne said, "black or white", most of the
time it reduces noticeably the resolution delay ;-)
