as far as I understand the metarouter concept of mikrotik, I assume that it
uses full system virtualization (not sharing the kernel of the host system).
(Please correct me if this is wrong.)

I would expect this kind of virtualization to be quite ressource intensive and
thus less suitable for cpu-bound operations (e.g. encryption).
